Since 1935, The Strand has stood proudly on the corner of the Marietta Square, its glowing marquee a beacon of laughter, music, storytelling, and togetherness. From its glamorous movie palace beginnings to its community-led revival, and now as a vibrant performing arts center hosting more than 200 events a year, The Strand’s story is, and always has been, yours.
This September, we’ll mark 90 incredible years of memories with a weeklong celebration of everything that makes The Strand magic. Experience performances, memories, and moments, all scheduled around our 90th anniversary on September 24.
From the names etched on our bricks and seats, to the voices on our stage, to every standing ovation, this anniversary is a tribute to the generations who kept The Strand alive and the next who will carry it forward.

13th Annual Strand Callathon Community Day

Celebrate the kickoff of The Strand’s 90th birthday week with our annual fundraising Callathon! Enjoy live entertainment at the top of every hour from 12pm-6pm and free guided tours of the building while our Callathon callers work the phones raising funds for our historic theatre.
Top Hat (1935) – Special Birthday Screening

Relive the glamour, the music, and the magic that started it all! 90 years ago on this day, at this exact time, The Strand opened it’s doors for the very first time with a screening of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ Top Hat on the big screen.
Join us as we celebrate our official birthday with a special birthday screening of 1935’s Top Hat on the big screen for just $5, plus explore a special Strand history display in the lobby.
The Great Locomotive Chase (1956)

Marietta made history in 1862 with the daring train heist known as the Great Locomotive Chase. Walt Disney brought that story to life on the big screen, and now we are bringing it home during our 90th celebration.
Don’t miss this chance to see a thrilling piece of local history in the theatre that belongs to the community it started in, featuring a special pre-show tribute to Graham Jackson and local history.
