Yacht Rock Revue’s 2 Night Stand at The Strand Includes Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and the Dark Side of the Rainbow

PleaseRockBeatles Marietta, Ga. (October 26, 2011) —Yacht Rock Revue will not only be bringing its popular 70’s cover show to The Strand this November, but will also be sticking around an extra night to take the stage with a different twist on the traditional tribute show. On Saturday, November 19th, the band will be performing not one, but two legendary albums in their entirety: The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon. For an extra special treat, The Dark Side of the Moon will be performed in sync with the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. This classic pairing began when people began noticing corresponding moments between the album and the film when played simultaneously and is commonly referred to as “The Dark Side of the Rainbow”. Yacht Rock Revue adopts the alter-ego band name of Please PleaseRock Me for this unique show. “Peter [Olson] and I went to high school together in Columbus, IN.  We took a band field trip one night to the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis where the Planetarium hosted late-night laser shows,” band member Nicholas Niespodziani recalls. “The night we went, the laser show was choreographed to Dark Side and that changed everything.  We attempted to play The Dark Side of the Moon our senior year.  I hope we’re a bit better at it now.” The REMakes, Atlanta’s popular tribute to Georgia’s R.E.M. will open the Saturday show by performing R.E.M.’s 1987 release, Document, the record which launched R.E.M. to platinum status. Fans of The Yacht Rock Revue’s more well-known cover show can catch it on the night before The Beatles/Pink Floyd show. On Friday November 18th, the band will pay tribute to smooth hits of the late ‘70s including Michael Mcdonald, Hall & Oates, and Steely Dan. The band grabbed three awards with this show in the 2010 Creative Loafing Best of Atlanta including the Critic’s Pick for “Best Excuse to Get Drunk with Your Dad”, as well as the Reader’s Pick for “Best Local Overall Music Act” and “Best Cover Band”. Yacht Rock Revue has also received praise from the Sunday Paper, which listed them as one of the 100 most influential people, groups, and places in Atlanta. The Yacht Rock Revue is comprised of Mark Cobb, Nicholas Niespodziani, Peter Olson, Mark Bencuya, Greg Lee, Mark Dannells, and Dave Freeman. The Saturday night Beatles/Pink Floyd performance is all ages, and the Yacht Rock Revue show is ages 18+. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 the day of the event. On sale now.
