Marietta, Ga. (July 9, 2012) —The Southern musician and innovative bandleader Col. Bruce Hampton, Ret. is coming to The Earl Smith Strand Theatre July 21, 2012 for a live performance and special screening of Basically Frightened: The Musical Madness of Col. Bruce Hampton, Ret.
The documentary about his life may be called, Basically Frightened: The Musical Madness of Col. Bruce Hamptonbut the only thing frightening about Atlanta native Col. Hampton is his bizarre musical style and disconcerting yet fun loving persona that has made him a legend in the music business. Col. Bruce Hampton has been making music since the early 1960’s and is showing no signs of quitting any time soon.
With a very lengthy list of featured names like Billy Bob Thornton, Dave Matthews, Ron Clinton Smith and members of REM and the Grateful Dead, Basically Frightened: The Musical Madness of Col. Bruce Hampton, Ret. talks about Hampton’s innovative music and impact, as well as his failures to reach a broad audience outside of his high profile fans. This documentary sold out two nights at the Atlanta Film Festival this year. Following the screening of Basically Frightened will be a Q&A and live concert by Col. Bruce Hampton himself.
The screening begins at 8pm, July 21, 2012, and the Q&A and live concert will follow. Tickets include both screening and show and are $12 in advance and $15 the day of, available for purchase through The Strand Box Office in person, by phone, or online.
The historic Earl Smith Strand Theatre is a multi-use performing arts and events facility.
